Water per 20 kg bag At least 1 L; 1.5 L typical; excess water acceptable Technical data specifies a minimum of 1 L. The site calculator uses 2 L as a conservative allowance.
Compacted density 2.3 g/cm³ (2,300 kg/m³) Used for coverage estimates at 40–50 mm.
Coverage guide 40 mm: 100 kg (5 bags) + 5 L/m²; 50 mm: 120 kg (6 bags) + 6 L/m² Manufacturer Table 5. Allow additional material for uneven or deep repairs.
Nominal aggregate size 5 mm or 13 mm 5 mm for fine finishes and footways; 13 mm for road pavement.
Application thickness 5 mm type: 20 mm or more; 13 mm type: 30 mm or more Where thickness exceeds 50 mm, place and compact in layers.
Marshall stability 5.0 kN average in SAMI testing SAMI ML04337, 7 days ambient cure. Maeda target is 4.9 kN minimum.
Early stability 5.4 kN at 1 hour Maeda technical data, 13 mm mix, 1 hour at 20 °C.
Resilient modulus 1,900 MPa SAMI ML04336, AS 2891.13.1, 7 days ambient cure.
Wheel tracking 1.5 mm rut after 24 h conditioning at 40 °C Road Science assessment. Unconditioned result 2.2 mm. Maeda 7-day wheel-tracking result 5,730 passes/mm.
Air voids 9.6% Marshall specimens; 7.3% modulus specimens SAMI reports ML04337 and ML04336. Values relate to laboratory-compacted specimens.
Time to traffic Straight-line traffic immediately after watering and compaction Allow approximately 2 hours at intersections and where wheels turn on the patch. Hardens significantly within 1 hour.
Application temperature Workable down to −15 °C; wet or dry conditions Manufacturer presentation. Cure rates slow at lower temperatures.
Shelf life — unopened 12 months from manufacture Store dry, out of direct sunlight and protected from rain.
Shelf life — opened Use promptly; seal the opening if any material remains Moisture in the air will begin the curing reaction.
Stacking Maximum 10 bags high; do not stack pallets Excess weight can create pinholes in the packaging and affect workability.
Binder Bio-based binder component; approximately 50% of the asphalt binder replaced Manufacturer technical data and presentation. No petroleum-based distillate solvents.
Colour Black Cured appearance may vary with aggregate and site conditions.
Safety classification Not classified as hazardous under the supplied SDS June 2025 SDS. Contains a small amount of flammable liquid; follow PPE and storage guidance.

Methods, reports and project approvals

These results describe the tested material. They do not replace a project specification or road authority approval.

  • Marshall stability and flow: AS 2891.5 — SAMI report ML04337, issued 17 September 2026.
  • Resilient modulus: AS 2891.13.1 — SAMI report ML04336, issued 17 September 2026.
  • Wheel tracking: Maeda 60 °C test data and Road Science 40 °C assessment (1.5 mm conditioned, 2.2 mm unconditioned).
  • Mix selection: confirm 5 mm or 13 mm, nominated thickness, surface preparation and compaction method against the project requirements.
  • Acceptance: road authority requirements, TTM, WHS and environmental controls remain project-specific.

Environment

A water-activated, lower-solvent binder system.

Aqua Patch uses a bio-based binder component and is supplied without petroleum-based distillate solvents. The manufacturer states that approximately 50% of the asphalt binder is replaced with bio-based material and that the product has no hydrocarbon leaching or evaporation. These are manufacturer statements; refer to the SDS and current technical documents for the full basis.

  • Water-activated chemical cure — no solvent evaporation to develop strength.
  • Approximately 50% of the asphalt binder replaced with bio-based material (manufacturer).
  • No hydrocarbon leaching or evaporation stated in the June 2025 SDS.
  • Suitable for wet-weather and standing-water repairs, reducing deferred work.
